How many subheadings (H2 and H3 tags) should I use?

There isn’t a set number to use, but use a lot of them. People skim content online so you can make it easy for them to read just by reading the subheadings.

In fact, I talked to a writer that used to work for a very big content site and he said they generally wrote so that a person could understand most of the content just by reading the subheadings and looking at the pictures.

A rule of thumb is to have a subheading for every 200 to 500 words.

It’s great if you can use long tail keyword phrases as the subheadings.

And don’t use H1 tags — H1s should just be used once as the title. If you’re using WordPress then the title of the post is the H1 tag.
